Tea time With Nejla - Arrival
Where Dance is heading.
Arrival used to mean warming up something like activating, stretching, preparing the body to perform.
But dance is no longer heading toward bigger movement, faster bodies, or endless novelty.

Dance is heading toward presence that can be felt before anything moves.

The most radical thing now is not what the body can do,
but how fully it arrives.

Audiences today are saturated with images, speed, explanation, performance.
What they are starved for is a body that is actually here.

A body that has landed in itself.
A body that is not rushing toward meaning.
A body that allows time to enter.

Can your stillness arrive before your movement.
Can your breath arrive before your gesture.
Can your listening arrive before your intention.

This is not absence. This is density.

Dance is heading toward bodies that do not announce themselves, they register.

Micro-Practice: Arrival Without Effort

You can do this standing, sitting, or lying down.
Do not adjust your posture.
Let the body be exactly as it is.
Let your attention drop from your head into your weight.
Notice where gravity already has you.
Try not  to “breathe deeply.”
Let the breath move as it wants.
Ask quietly: What part of me has already arrived without trying?
Wait and notice.
When you sense something a heaviness, warmth, vibration, softness
do nothing with it.
Let it know you noticed.
If a movement happens, let it be small.
If nothing happens, that is also arrival.
Then stop before you feel finished.

A question for you to carry:
What changes when I arrive before I act?
I soften and get expansive when I arrive fully. My edges are softened and I feel porous.
Do not answer it.
Let it walk with you today in emails, conversations, rehearsals, pauses.
