Dancing Around The World

Dancing Around The World

“Dancing Around the World” is a year long art project that encourages and engages local communities by cultivating interdisciplinary arts and community. The academic language for this process is increasing social capital through a movement driven interdisciplinary practice. One could think of it as “flash mob” meets two week interdisciplinary dance process to help local communities recontextualize their movement to community spaces. The goal is to explore and make people become aware - both intimately and broadly, of the interaction of people, movement and the environment through dance, video and sound for a year.  Throughout this journey we want to understand what moves people, how people move and express themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually in diverse spaces, and to empower people by making them self aware of the impact their movement and body language has upon the social environment and themselves. They will be discovering community based artistic expression by coordinating motion, dance and sound. This project will be available in real time to a global audience to follow, engage and participate in a weekly web series, blog and gallery space. Throughout the process we will be recording a documentary film of what we have learned from this project to share with you.  We need your support to cover the expenses of two artists working in 20 cities for one year from April 2015 - 2016. The expenses being: housing, meals, international flights, video documentation and the creation of a website to unite and share the work.
