After the Performance

After the Performance

I dream my dances and then I dance my dances or in the case of the Wall stories I have them danced by a brilliant cast. It’s been a gratifying feeling to see the fruits of months of hard work - conceptualizing as well as visualizing, rehearsing, dreaming, thinking, imagining.  It finally all came alive on stage. There is a lot of trust involved in this process. Trust that the dancers will transform themselves and understand the vision, trust that the lighting designer is seeing what you are seeing, trust that the videographer will support the vision you have and trust that your visions as well as hard work will makes sense and come together into a cohesive visual narrative. And somehow it all comes together - magically, surprisingly and creates it’s own life. It’s so gratifying to see your own imagination come alive and become it’s own thing.  But, even more satisfying is how it creates a reaction in the audience. I heard so many wonderful comments about my latest piece. It’s like you pour out your soul to someone and the person pours themselves out back to you. What an experience…..

Some response from the audience:

Chiaki Matsumoto:

….you're an amazing, beautiful, creative, incredible, stunning, talented, and far more than wonderful dancer i've ever met. your performance shook my soul and your Berlin Wall project rocked my heart.

Harvey Banks:

I was blown away by your pieces and the time went by so fast that it seemed to have been only seconds in duration. You were simply brilliant and your statements, both in your solo and the more political "Wall"selection has to be seen by any lover of dance, and humanity. Thank You for the beauty, intellectual stimulation and timeless messages of the heart.

Astrid Riecken:

                        …..the choreography of the Berlin Wall was very stunning - I think it's one of

                             the best I have ever seen….

Laura Weiss:

                     I loved watching this dance. It had every element of great storytelling;

                     thought-provoking, funny, exciting, tragic, and sweet, told through precise,

                     dynamic, expressive, and just plain beautiful dancing. I never wanted it to end.
