Join 2023 Guggenheim Fellow in choreography and globally acclaimed dance artist Nejla Yatkin for a movement workshop in conversation with Guadalupe Maravilla with Emery Blagdon: The star exploding in the body. The workshop will stem from Yatkin’s dance piece entitled Ouroboros, an interactive theatrical solo dance presented in the round, which resurrects and centers the ancient healing symbol of Ouroboros through personal storytelling including multiple languages: English, German, Turkish and ASL, and dance (contemporary and Middle Eastern).
When reflecting on JMKAC’s 2026 In Tune theme, Yatkin says, “The theme of attunement to ourselves, one another, and our surroundings feels beautifully aligned with my work.” Yatkin also explores embodiment and relationships with the body, time, life, breath, and gravity; Body of Earth considers how everything is connected. Yatkin will guide workshop participants through excerpts of her work, her somatic practice, and ancestral migratory journeys, echoing themes of migration and movement in Guadalupe Maravilla’s work.
