Anatolian Inspirations: ModernWorks Ensemble

Hear this top new-music ensemble from New York perform fascinating works by Turkish composers for Western and Turkish instruments. The program features the American premiere of Kamran Ince’s Lines for clarinet and piano and Asumani for cello and flute, along with the world premiere of Tolga Tuzun’s Five Preludes for solo cello. Filling out the program are Reza Vali’s Folk Songs—for an unusual ensemble of flute, cello, percussion, and crystal glasses—Kazem Davoudian’s solos on traditional instruments, and as a finale, modern dancer Nejla Yatkin’s new choreography inspired by the work of famed Turkish photojournalist Ara Güler.
