Dancing with San Salvador - A travelogue of movement

Some people travel to other cities and look at the architecture or analyze the fashion, food or wines found there. While working in this genre, I offer a unique spin on this theme by visiting cities with my Dancing Around The World (DAW) and looking at the movement as well as body language of people in that particular place (i.e., how and why they move). This exciting, dance art project will visit one major city every two weeks for exploration. During a movement workshop taught by me we will be observing and analyzing people's movement behavior, the DAW workshop will create a dance inspired by that city as well as its movement performed in selected sites throughout the locale of interest. Videographer Enki Andrews will follow the DAW workshop each step of the way, giving us visual insight into how an environment, its history, its architecture, language as well as reflection influences our movements. To make the work available to a larger audience, we will also develop a short Youtube episodes from a more playful perspective that accompanies the other works described above.

The Workshop is hosted by the Association de Arte Dramatico at the National School of Dance in San Salvador

During the residency in San Salvador Nejla will also perform What Dreams May Come at the National Theater on June 23rd, 2015.
