Another kind Of Social dancing called Belly Dancing
I would like to invite you to join me for some dancing that celebrates the feminine and empowers women via Zoom. Here in the West they call it Belly Dancing but in the Middle East where we do it at parties, celebrations, weddings we call it Dancing.
The origin of the name ‘belly dance’ comes from the French Danse du ventre, which translates as “dance of the stomach” and later it was named Belly Dance at the Chicago’s World Fair in 1893. Belly dance is also often referred to as “Oriental dance” and also sometimes raks sharqi (which means in Arabic dance of the East).
I invite you to join me for a weekly Middle Eastern social dancing. This dance form has been a type of social dance since unmemorable times. It was and is danced when people gather together to socialize. I invite all to celebrate the feminine with undulations, shimmies, intricate hip movements and torso articulations and learn to improvise with the different elements. Anybody can join the weekly 40 min dance classes will start Thursday May 6th at 9AM via Zoom. It's free and/or you can make a donation below. To sign up and receive a link email me at ny2dance@gmail.com or respond to the newsletter.
